- There was a lot of hype in 2006 when Steve Jobs announced that the release of iTunes 7 would include the ability to rent and purchase movies. Unfortunately, the selection wasn't too great, since Disney was the only participating studio. However, Apple's getting serious with other studios, having secured distribution rights for over 1,500 movies from 20th Century Fox, Warner Bros., Paramount Pictures, Universal Studios Home Entertainment, Sony Pictures Entertainment, Lionsgate, Image Entertainment and First Look Studio.
