Weekly Mix: Superbowl!

Ok, here's the deal. I'm from Massachusetts, but I'm a Giants fan. I'm also a Patriots fan. So I've been stressing hardcore for the last two weeks, happy to see both of my teams in the big game, but kind of wishing the Giants were playing the Bengals or something, just so I could get angry. But that's not the case, so though I'll still be rooting for my Little Giants That Could (amidst a pack of Pats fans--in New York!), I'll be warding off feelings of conflict the whole game. I kind of just want it to be over.

Anyway, here's a mix for the Giants, the underdogs...let's make it number 3!

1. "I Like Giants" - Kimya Dawson

Kimya, I didn't know you were a football fan! Oh, you're talking about mythical creatures. Well, that's cool, too, I suppose. The fact that you're talking about girl giants is cool, though, because if I could play for the Giants, I would. Sigh. Another life...another life.

2. "NFL Rap (Let's Play Football)" - Double or Nothin

With this entry, we begin the hip-hop section of this mix, filled with hotness, specificity, shout-outs, beats, and official NFL-sponsorship. Not too shabby.

3. "Friendly Game of Football" - The High & Mighty

Yeah, it's just a little game, no big deal. Just a friendly game...

4. "New York Giants (feat. M.O.P)" - Big Punisher

Yes! A Giants-specific song by Big Pun in which the phrase "papi chulo" is uttered. Now I can die happy.

5. "We Fly High (NY Giants Remix)" - Jim Jones

And now Jim Jones (no not that one) spits some Strahan props and even mentions little Eli!

6. "We Gonna Win (feat. Styles P)" - Miri-Ben Ari & Styles P

Damn straight, Miri-Ben Ari (also known as "The Hip-Hop Violinist") and Styles P (also known as "Super Gangster/Extraordinary Gentleman").

7. "New York Groove" - Ace Frehley

Ok boys, even though you're in Arizona, you must conjure the energy of NYC and the thousands of fans willing you to win as they gaze out at the Empire State Building in between plays.

8. "Play To Win" - The Clash

Leave it to the Clash to state it simply.

9. "(I Wanna Be) Touchdown Jesus" - The Boo Radleys

In this case, the "I" stands for Plaxico Burress. If he scores and they win, I will forever refer to him as Plaxico "Touchdown Jesus" Burress, which is a pretty good name, but not as good as Craphonso Thorpe.

10. "Against All Odds" - The Postal Service

In case you didn't know, the Giants are not favored to win. (I couldn't bring myself to use the Phil Collins version, which in truth is one of my guilty pleasure songs--and, apparently, one of Ben Gibbard's. When you're 10, this song is the height of romance.)

Bonus Track

"After the Superbowl" - Memphis Sheiks

Ok, 1) this dude sounds like David Lee Roth. 2) He swears he's going to quit drinking after the Superbowl. 3) The record from whence this tracks comes is called Slow-Cooked Pig Meat. I have nothing more.

GO GIANTS!!!
