A weekly roundup of hot topics and buzz-worthy conversation from the Logic Studio community:
First off…
Apple Pro has a new artist profile up on one of Zoom In’s newest friends, Erykah Badu. In the profile she discusses how after a long break, a MacBook and Garage Band was all she needed to fuel her creatively. Look for Rehearsal Space: Erykah Badu appearing exclusively on Zoom In Online coming soon!
ApulSoft has a whole mess of “freeports” that are available for download. Many of them are VSTs that have been ported over to OSX, but you still may need some kind of wrapper to get them to load as AU. Look for the newest update of the Linear Phase Graphic EQ 2.1.5 from last week.
AudioCodex v1.0 has been released by MachineCodex. This is a very interesting program that will allow you to use AU effects to create and modify items from your iTunes libraries. Want to pitch shift that latest Coldplay single? (DISCLOSURE: I haven’t tried this program yet, someone email me and let me know if Logic’s native effects show up!)
Native Instruments has expanded its Soundpack Library with KONTAKT Retro Machines. 22 Vintage synths and drum machines from the 70’s and 80’s. It’s cheap and all you need is the KORE Player Download to get it all running in Logic.
And finally...
We should all take a moment remember the career of an engineering great, Larry Levine. Levine worked closely with Phil Spector, recording many of the “Wall-of-Sound” hits in the 60’s and 70’s like “Unchained Melody,” and “Walking in the Rain,” and later worked on Pet Sounds and the Ramone’s album, End of the Century. Larry Levine died on May 8th at the age of 80.
