First off…
If you have been in an Apple store lately, you may have seen Apogee’s Duet on the showroom floor. You might even have picked one up. If you did, you will want to know about the update to Maestro, the software bridge between the hardware and OSX. The free download is available on the Apogee website.
I you have been in the market for a good Compressor Plug-in, maybe you should check out the Pro-C1.10 from FabFilter. It’s a high quality 3-style compressor plug-in packaged in an interface that makes modification easy for all users. If you need the help, it also offers up interactive hints on compression basics. All of this and more available as an AU for use in Logic of course.
Audio Ease has taken a cue from Leopard’s quickview and released Snapper 1.0.4. Simply by selecting an audio file in Finder, Snapper will pop up and show you a preview of the audio waveform. You can also play back, scrub, edit sections, and export to various file types all with in the Snapper preview window.
A great blog popped up over the holiday weekend offering up links to lots of free Loops for DAWs including Logic Pro and Soundtrack Pro. If you are a loop based producer, or just looking to expand your loop library, cruise over to IFSS-TECH’s blog for the link list.
And finally...
The ease of use and infinite availability of recording technology has created a new boom in DIY style recording. The once-relegated-to-punks-and-folksters-style of throwing up mics and tracking in a bedroom is now becoming the norm among independent artists aided by $500 recording programs and $1000 laptops. However, in a straight-to-iTunes world, the discussion still rages about volume. Thanks to the super loud CD’s mastered to the maximum level, consumers still equate “loud” as a misunderstood substitute for better. In this article, Grammy-winning mastering engineer Gavin Lurssen dives a litter further into “The Level Wars.”
