T-Pain's Focus On Collaborations = 5 BET Award Nominations!

Past Rehearsal Space guest T-Pain is making headlines again today following the announcement of the 2008 BET Award nominees. Pain lead his peers with five nominations, topping Kanye West and Alicia Keys who each received three nods, and Mary J. Blige, Lil Wayne and Keyshia Cole who each took away two.

The amazing part about Pain's story however is that his solo work will not factor into his potential trophy count. Three of his nominations appear in the Best Collaborations category and the remaining two are also appearences by Pain on other artists' work. This just continues to show that the marketing genius that broke new ground selling ringtones, setting records in the largely untapped market at the time, has gone the route of the cranberry and become hip hop's top wingman.

When T-Pain appeared on Rehearsal Space this past January, a large theme to the interview was his opinion on what it takes to "make it" in the industry. Pain, a Logic Studio advocate, discussed at lenth his idea that you have to do something new, or at very least something that has been done in a new and different way. This philosphy is obviously paying off as his coloborative and producer efforts long ago surpassed the popularity of his own album, which in itself was nothing at which to scoff.
