- Have a clear premise & know
why you want to tell this story.
- Be willing to rewrite, not just
rework.
- Listen to criticism. Don’t
be so locked into your ideas that you miss your
breakthrough.
- Don’t put form over function. Every
great rule-breaking screenplay started with a
compelling story, and developed its structural
system in order to best tell that particular
story.
- Format your script correctly and
make sure to proofread.
- Remember that you only get one
first chance to show someone your work- don’t
rush just to get it out there. As someone
once said to me, “If you do it and it’s
done, that’s good. But if you do
it and it’s good, that’s better.”
