There are a lot of us around the ZIO shop who are Battlestar Galactica fans but I haven't heard anybody mention this yet.

There was an announcement this week on BSG's website that they are running a contest for viewers to edit together their own four minute clip of the show. Here's the instructions:

Create your own mock commercials, short scenes or even mini-episodes — funny or dramatic. Choose from more than 30 visual effects, 20-plus audio effects and cuts from the show's soundtrack, specially selected to help give your videos the Battlestar look and sound. Use them to make your video, add the required promo clip at the end, and send it to us!

They have posted lots of raw shots from the shot, along with effects and music and plenty of other stuff in the toolkit. Exec Producer David Eick will be selecting a winner from the ones submitted and it will play in its entirety during an upcoming episode

If you're a budding editor/film maker this is the perfect chance to cut your teeth on a fun project. When I was in school we always had editing exercises where we either took "found" footage (existing clips from a movie or tv show) or exercise clips (a collection of raw takes for a fake movie scene). I would have loved to have had something as cool as BSG footage to use for those projects.
