I have been reading John August's blog for several months now, fellow ZIO'er Annie turned me on to his site shortly after I started blogging here. I found a VERY
interesting blog post on his site. Even if you're not a writer, or a filmmaker, this post is a really fascinating study of one reason I think blogging is really cool, and what can happen within the dialog of a post and it's appended comments.
The post begins with a letter from Mike Rabinowitz, Head Writer at REAX Music Magazine - and asks the question "Should I write a novel or a script?" The ensuing discussion is incredibly interesting, and down in the comments, a slightly unsettling discussion pops up. August makes a dig of another writer's work as a "general kind of joke" in his blog post response to Rabinowitz' email, but that other writer, as it turns out, is a reader of the blog (!) and leaves a comment of his own.
JA's an excellent writer and blogger, and has so many insights into the processes of writing and directing movies. He wrote "Go", "Big Fish", and both "Charlie's Angels" films among others, and is also a producer and a director. His new film (which he wrote and directed) is "The Nines", "A troubled actor, a television show runner, and an acclaimed videogame designer find their lives intertwining in mysterious and unsettling ways." Sounds intriguing. "Mostly, [John] answers reader-submitted questions about the craft, but occasionally he goes on tangents that run far afield of writing and filmmaking. You'll also find info on past, present and future projects."
