Sonja Zjawinski posted the winners of this year's National Design Awards, which is Cooper-Hewitt's eighth annual, on the Wired blog. Apple and Jonathan Ive scored a win for the product design of the iPhone. So that's FCC approval and superlative innovation in design acknowledgment in the same week, all events in a line leading toward its release in late June. With the ingenious and simple ad for the iPhone I think they're going to have another huge hit on their hands.
Other awards of note: Adobe Systems Inc., for corporate achievement (for the new branding of Creative Suite 3), and for Lifetime Achievement: New Mexico based architect Antoine Predock, whose architectural designs are truly like nothing I've ever seen - except maybe in my head while reading science fiction.
