Editor's Note: The following is part of a two-week series of guest entries authored by Mark Pederson, Owner and Executive Producer of Offhollywood Studios, about his experiences with the very first two RED cameras to hit the public market. The RED is a boundary breaking technology that offers unparalleled HD imagery in digital format at a price point 1/10th that of similarly equipped cameras.
Monday. 5:45pm. Tired. My business partner Aldey and I have been shooting 4K with our Red cameras since a few hours after my last post - pretty much straight through to 4:30am this morning. We had an amazing weekend shooting with a very established Hollywood director. Non-stop. We had a tough time keeping up with him.
I can't name names yet, but hopefully the studio will be happy with the results and let us get a press release out and go public with this "covert Red caper".
Here's a photo I can release because you can't see who it is as he's got a black T-shirt over his head to block the sun. This shot was snapped after the engine on the dingy died. We had too many issues struggling with the "splash bag" (see my last post) so, we just threw the camera without any protection into the dingy and towed it behind the boat to get the shot. No casualties. Only great footage.
It's very exciting to see what an experienced, talented professional can do with a new cutting-edge technology.
I have said it before, and I will say it again. This camera is going to change everything.
Tonight I will sleep like a rock. In the morning I will take my time to write my final post for the Red Diary on zoom-in.com.
