My name is Rasmus, I am Danish and I am not a photographer. At least not just a photographer, but rather a guy who likes to dabble in all sorts of creative arenas, and who happens to have had the most success with creating photos. A lot of those have been for stock, and indeed it was stock photography that got me into taking pictures to begin with. Back in 2000, I was working as a web designer, and I was looking for images to use in a project, when I came across iStockphoto, an agency that offered quality stock photos for free! And if you uploaded your own photos, you could get sweet site cred. Since the office I was working in had recently invested in a camera, how could I resist such a tempting proposition.
iStockphoto has been my battleground ever since, and though the images are no longer free, it's now possible for me to make a buck or three off of my work. I left IT behind to focus on photography in 2002, studied full time for two years and ended up leaving my home in Copenhagen, Denmark, to attend an iStockphoto event in Seattle, in the spring of 2005. And that's where I met my wife, the ultra-talented food photographer and stylist, Kelly Cline. I haven't set foot in my Copenhagen apartment since.
I would like to share my journey through the wonderous world of photography with you, and give you an insight into my life. Right now is a perfect time to start, not only because it's a new year, but also because I've been in a bit of a slump lately, and need to get into gear again. So there's drama waiting to happen from day one. I need to work up ideas, find models, studios, time – and you are invited to ride along. Of course I'll be sharing actual tips and techniques as well, but let's face it, everybody knows it's the drama that really makes a blog interesting, right?
I should probably mention, that I also have another blog about photography, where I am in the process of writing an actual book. It's a guide for people who want to get started on stock photography, and each chapter gets published as individual posts, as I finish them. The actual book will have a lot more information in it, but I figured it would be a good way to get a first draft done and get some feedback along the way.
Anyway, thank you for joining me and reading this introduction. I hope you will enjoy the content to come.
