For a while now, I have been following a number of people on Flickr, who all take part in a project: Every day for a full year, they post a new and different self-portrait. They then add those pictures to a dedicated Flickr group (there are several to pick from), to share with likeminded people.
Now, this project sounds like something that would be fun to do, yet I haven't done it, and I'm not sure I ever will. Why? Because of being my own worst critic is why. I know, I would want every new photo to be better than the previous one, and I'd start stressing out about it, if it didn't turn out the way I wanted, or if I ended up having to skip a day here and there. You could probably say, that these are the same reasons, I should just do it anyway, but I guess I'm just too much of a chicken. Or maybe I just need more time.
One of the reasons I follow these groups, apart from my fascination with those who have the courage to take on this challenge, is that it's actually quite interesting to see how a lot of the people participating, improve their photography skills over time. It's pretty clear that they too want each new photo to be better than the previous, and in most cases they are. I think it's way cool to see how new angles and different compositions are mixed with different kinds of lighting setups and whatever else the shooter's imagination can come up with.
One of my personal favorites is Danny Ngan, who just recently started his second round of 365.
