Cannes Unveils Lineup

The film lineup for the 2008 Cannes Film Festival has been announced. Among the contenders for this year's Palm d'Or are Soderbergh's two pic Che Guevara bio The Argentine and Guerrilla, Clint Eastwood's Changeling, Charlie Kaufman's Synecdoche, New York and Wim Wenders' The Palmero Shooting.

The United States isn't greatly represented amongst films in competition, but thanks to the out of competition screenings of Vicky Christina Barcelona, Kung Fu Panda, and Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull this year's festival is slated to be one of the glitziest ever.

Those familiar with Cannes and the Palm d'Or who have entered films include Belgian brothers Luc and Jean-Pierre Dardenne (The Silence of Lorna), French filmmaker Arnaud Desplechin (A Christmas Tale), Brazilian Walter Salles (Linha de Passe), and Turkish auteur Nuri Bilge Ceylan (Daydreams).

The festival is packed with plenty of newcomers as well including the only Chinese entrant, Jia Zhangke (24 City), Israeli's Ari Folman (Waltz With Bashir), and Singapore's "top-ranking auteur" Eric Khoo (My Magic).
