Stuntman Badly Hurt After Accident on 'James Bond' Set

Two stuntment were hurt, one of them with "serious head injuries," during a car crash on the set of the latest James Bond film, Quantum of Solace. The scene being filmed was a car chase along a winding road near Italy's Lake Garda resort.

The Associated Press reports that "the stuntman underwent surgery at a hospital in nearby Verona...the second stuntman was slightly injured." To add to the shock of the accident is the fact that this is not the first accident since filming began. On Saturday, an Aston Martin went off the road and plunged into the lake, though that driver suffered only minor injuries.

Few people realize how dangerous stunt work is. Despite the fact that such physically demanding stunts are left to the professionals, there is not always a guarantee that those professionals will emerge unscathed. Stunt work is a dangerous craft that people often overlook when encapsulating the value of a film. Stuntmen have been vocal for years about the inclusion of stunt category in the Academy Awards and I for one, echo their sentiments.
