Audio geeks, rejoice! The highly anticipated international release of the drool-worthy Tenori-On is here.
For those not familiar, Tenori-On is a portable touch-activated sequencer developed by Yamaha and designed by Toshio Iwai. This 16x16 matrix of LED switches can be used as a MIDI controller and loaded up with samples for live sets. A technical description does it little justice, though. This is a gadget made to be seen...
This sexy new "instrument for the 21st century" was released in the UK last September, and is already in the hands of a range of musicians, from Bjork and Four Tet to Peter Gabriel. For the rest of us, Tenori-On has launched a world tour, which features demos by top electronic artists.
US shows in New York (April 16) and San Fran (Aprl 18) will feature some of my personal faves, Scissor Scissors and I am Robot and Proud, along with Robert Lippok, Pole, Sutekh, Nathan Michel and, of course, Toshio Iwai himself.
