I'm doing the 5D dance right now, and it ain't pretty. Partly because I am a terrible dancer (I prefer to be on stage instead, providing the music), but mostly because of all the rumors. See, I am on the verge of upgrading my current camera, the Canon 20D, to a full frame DSLR. Obviously, I am going to stick with Canon because they are the best. And maybe also a little bit because of all the lenses and stuff I've got.
Anyway, rumors of a new, updated version of the 5D have been flying for months now, and that is my problem right there. I want to upgrade now, but I don't want to take the last 5D box off the shelf, only to see it replaced by a 5D mark II or 3D, or whatever the updated version will be called. And I have a strong feeling, the new model is just around the corner.
Why? Well, Canon recently issued a $300 instant rebate on 5D cameras. No mail-in business here, this is straight off the top. Perhaps they want to get rid of them, to make room for the new model? I certainly think that might be the case.
So, I am dancing around the temptation of upgrading right now, hoping that I can keep going until the new model is out. But let me tell you, it is a hard dance to keep up!

I'm in the same boat, but the real question is, what doesn't the 5D give you? It's not like when the newer version comes out the images from the 5D will be poopy, the camera, even at 2 years old makes AMAZING images, and you get XL on iStock. What void do you need filled between the 5D and a 1Ds MKII (which currently fetch about $4k on the used market)?
The 5D from b&h is around $1900 with instant rebates right now, from what I've seen on the forums, a used 5D gets about that much, if you are lucky you get the grip with it too. Even at $1900, I think it's a steal, considering it was $3200 when it first came out.
Personally, I'm waiting till I have all the money saved up, that's the only thing holding me back right now.
