"Dance your cares away, worry's for another day. Let the music play, down at Fraggle Rock." Do you remember that theme song? I know I do. If you're tired of movie studios bastardizing your childhood memories then perhaps you shouldn't read on. If, however, you were one of the many who catapulted Fraggle Rock's DVD sales then this is the story for you. Variety reports that The Weinstein Company will turn Jim Henson's classic 80s series Fraggle Rock into a live-action musical feature film.
"One of our main priorities when we first launched the Weinstein Company was to feature a broad range of family-friendly franchises like 'Fraggle Rock'," Weinstein said. The good news for the nostalgic is that the film will feature authentic puppets and not devolve into CGI recreations. "Pic will take the core characters Gogo, Wembley, Mokey, Boober and Red outside of their home in Fraggle Rock, where they interact with humans, which they think are aliens." The bad news is that Cory Edwards, director of the flop Hoodwinked!, will be writing and directing.
Screw the skeptics, I'm excited about this idea. So excited that I searched the web for the theme song. Found it here. No word yet on the inclusion of other Fraggle constants like the Gorgs or Marjory, The Trash Heap, but I think we can all agree that the Fraggles just wouldn't be Fraggles without the Doozers' symbiotic relationship created with their edible, candy-like scaffolding.
