New York Times recently released a web interface prototype called Article Skimmer. It utilizes a grid layout for current articles and has keyboard support for scrolling through the sections.
Pluses: Super clean design and looks good. Great concept!
Minuses: Keyboard support is lacking. You can only scroll through sections, not articles themselves. This is my biggest gripe as there is almost no point in enabling keyboard functions if it only half works. Fix this right now! Also, there is no quick preview for articles, and it has an overall sluggish feel to it.
Alright alright, it's only a prototype. In time, with some tweaks here and there this will be a great application to get your news on. Hmmm... me thinks a RSS reader application that uses a similar interface would be quite nice.
