Box Office Winners And Losers

Children's book turned hipster movie, Where the Wild Things Are beat out Law Abiding Citizen at the box office this past weekend. Wild Things grossed a total of $32.5 million, while Citizen brought in a respectable $21.3 million.

Meanwhile, Paramount's Paranormal Activity is still going strong in its fourth week, coming in third place with $20.2 million after opening in additional theaters across the country. On Friday the movie plans to expand even further, hoping to surpass its impressive cume of $33.7 million so far. 

Universal's Couples Retreat has dropped into fourth place, making close to $18 million over the weekend for a total gross of $63.3 million; while New York, I Love You, Vivendi Entertainment's newest drama about love in New York City had a relatively strong start, grossing $372,107 this past weekend despite a limited release in 125 locations.

The big box office winner of the bunch however remains Sony's Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs, making a little over $8 million over the weekend to bring it to a total of $108, 284, 000.
