We here at Zoom In Online realize that you probably spend so much time perusing our site that you may occasionally look up from your web browsing and notice that multiple days have passed.  We appreciate that.  While we can't make up for your lost days of work or missing your spouse's/friend's/relative's/child's birthday, we can update you on what you're missing in the outside world - what DVDs are being released, for instance.  Check Zoom In Online every Tuesday to keep tabs on all the DVD and Blu-ray releases for the week.

October 6, 2009

Significant Titles Include:

Trick 'R Treat: Halloween is just for fun, right?  Wrong - at least in this spooky film written and directed by Michael Dougherty.  The movie focuses around four separate story lines taking place on Halloween — a high school principal by day, serial killer by night; a teenage group of overzealous pranksters; a hermit who's payed an unexpected visit; and last but not least, a virgin.  Awesome.  The only exra material on the DVD release will be a "Trick ’R Treat: Season’s Greetings" feature with optional commentary by Director Michael Dougherty.  The Blu-ray release will also include that, as well as an audio commentary with the director, additional scenes, a special effects comparison, another featurette on the legends of Halloween, and more.
Format: DVD and Blu-ray

Assassination of a High School President: Ah yes, a return to high school student stereotypes.  Only in this film, the stereotypes are spot on, and there's a twist: a case of SAT exams has mysteriously gone missing.  So naturally, "popular girl" Francesca, played by Mischa Barton, and "nerdy newspaper reporter" Bobby, played by talented newcomer Reece Thompson, team up to crack the case.  But like they always do in high school, things become much more complicated as Bobby delves into his investigation and begins to unravel the  truth. Special features include alternate opening sequences with commentary from director Brett Simon and writers Tim Calpin and Kevin Jakubowski, as well as extended and deleted scenes, both also with optional commentary.
Format: DVD and Blu-ray

Anvil! The Story of Anvil: When you're 14 years old, you say you're going to do a lot of things in your life.  And then you never do.  When Robb Reiner and Steve Kudlow said they were going to rock together till the end of time, they actually took it seriously.  Now in their fifties, the heavy metal duo—known to their fans as Anvil—is still making music, struggling to sustain a career in an industry that for whatever reason, just didn't take to them in the same way it took to Metallica, Slayer, Anthrax, and other metal legends.  A tremendous hit on the film festival circuit, this humorous and touching documentary tells their candid story, both the good parts and the bad.  Special DVD features include numerous outtakes, immensely entertaining commentary from the stars, deleted scenes, an extended version of the interview with Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich, and lastly, a look at what the band is doing now that they have a successful movie under their silver-studded belts as well. Blu-ray features include all that, plus a special called "Sachi Gervasi Rocks With Anvil," where the director of the documentary literally gets onstage and headbangs with the band.
Format: DVD and Blu-ray

Nip/Tuck Season 5 / Part 2: Doctors Sean McNamara (Dylan Walsh) and Christian Troy (Julian McMahon) are at it again.  Messing up other people's lives, that is.  In this raunchy Golden Globe-winning series, Dr. Troy makes a regrettable proposal, and Liz is left to deal with the repercussions.  Also, in a surprise turn of events, another doctor (with a strange affinity for furniture) enters the dicey drama to complicate things even further.  It's all the blood, sex and scandal you love most about the show, sure to keep you couch-potatoed until the very end.  DVD extras include the special feature, "Skin Deep? - The Science of Beauty," deleted scenes from the season as well as a laugh-out-loud worthy gag reel.
Format: DVD and Blu-ray
