New Blog Series Coming to Film & TV Channel!

I can see my house from hereWe here at Zoom In Online are always trying to broaden our appeal and draw in the most amount of interested parties and while we seem to be doing a pretty good job covering the happenings in America, our international coverage could use a good shot in the arm.  Realizing this, we've added a new blog on the Film & TV Channel, "Across the Pond," which will begin on Monday, February 23.  Here's a quick summary of what you can expect from "Across the Pond":

Welcome to the world of Brit-flicks.  In this new blog series from Zoom In Online, we'll explore interesting and engaging films from the far off and mythical land of England that haven't - and maybe never will - made their way to the new world.  With high profile directors like Danny Boyle, Edgar Wright and Guy Richie already accumulating huge followings in the US it is important to draw the world's attention to filmmakers such as Shane Meadows, Nick Love and Paul Andrew Williams who are largely unknown despite producing fantastic work.  Likewise, this series will investigate the relationship between contemporary Britain and the polarised material being produced by its filmmakers.  For example: on the one hand we have the world of Richard Curtis, a shiney upper-middle class stuttering vision of Britain, and on the other we have the bleak and desperate vision of Britain portrayed by the likes of Williams and Love.

The blog will be handled by guest contributor Kieran Masterton, a delightful English chap who got his first taste of the big time a few weeks ago with his "You Really Need to See This" blog for Going to Pieces: The Rise and Fall of the Slasher Film. To help get you acquainted with Kieran, let me provide you with a little bit of background:I can't see my house from here

  • Kieran currently lives with the Mrs. in Bath and works as a web designer for one of the UK's leading magazine publishers whose titles include Total Film

  • He's currently working on a research degree in Screenwriting and Genre from the University of Gloucestershire and his undergrad Film Studies thesis was entitled, "Why Big-Breasted Girls Don't Always Run Up the Stairs: An Exploration of Postmodernity and Gender in the Slasher Film"

  • His favorite slasher film is Sean S. Cunningham's Friday the 13th and feels nothing but loathing for Marcus Nispel and his remake

  • He wanted to get into movies after seeing Back to the Future for the first time

  • He was the cinematographer on my award-winning (at an undergrad student level) short film, which won, among other things, best cinematography.

Now that everyone's best friends, I certainly encourage you to check back to Zoom In Online this coming Monday to read the inaugural issue of "Across the Pond."
