No longer will you have to travel to Park City, Utah just to be a part of Sundance. A new event has been created by the Sundance Institute called Sundance Film Festival U.S.A. that will enable Sundance filmmakers to come to you - well, at least eight of them, all of whom will travel to eight separate cities on January 28 during the festival's awards weekend.

The events will be held at local art house theaters around the area and will be hosted by the Sundance filmmakers, each one including a video from Sundance founder and president Robert Redford, highlights from the 2010 festival and a Q&A session   after the screening.

The events are scheduled for each of the following theaters:
- Michigan Theater, Ann Arbor, Michigan
- Coolidge Corner Theatre, Brookline, Massachusetts
- BAM, Brooklyn, New York
- Music Box Theatre, Chicago, Illinois
- Downtown Independent, Los Angeles, California
- Sundance Cinema, Madison, Wisconsin
- Belcourt Theatre, Nashville, Tennessee
- Sundance Kabuki Cinema, San Francisco, California.

Redford has said that the point of the events are to expand the independent voice and engage even the farthest moviegoer in the Sundance screening process according to the LA Times: "'We hope by speaking with artists about their work and experiencing the festival as it is happening, audiences will be inspired to share opinions, discuss the key issues of our day and reflect on the role art plays in social change.'”

It has yet to be decided who the eight filmmakers will be, but the names will be announced in December just following the 2010 festival lineup announcement. So if you currently live in one of the aforementioned cities, skip the trip this year and for the first time ever, experience Sundance on your own turf.
