Air
Last year Adobe announced a new design & development platform called Air. Geek speak wise, it is a cross platform java runtime environment. What that really means is that its a mac and pc friendly way for you to create self contained applications or experiences that encompass all the power of flash and the internet without the need to embed it into a web page. there aren't a ton of video related applications that have been developed for it yet, but there is a plethora of apps in the showcase to look at for ideas of how interactive the experience can be.
In particular I was think Brad's group (WHAT WE GOT: DJ'S SPOOKY"S SEARCH FOR THE COMMONS) would really benefit from using this as a way to package an entire mini-editing tool for their re-mix idea!

Flip Camera
Also, those of you interested in cheap ways to record content should try out the flip camera. Flip has gotten very popular amongst the blogging community. you can buy them for as cheap as $120 or so and allow you to record about an hour of content at SD resolutions (640×480, 4.5mbps, mpeg-4 AVI). It has a USB cable and can be plugged directly into a mac of PC for copying the files over.

Audio Stuff
At the presentation this morning, I saw everyone jotting down the names of the cool tools that John Barth from PRX was talking about, so I thought I’d post the links to them here:
Audio Hijack: http://www.rogueamoeba.com/audiohijack/
Audacity: http://audacity.sourceforge.net/
In adition to these, here are some tools i’ve used to create audio/visual slide shows:
Podcast Maker: http://www.lemonzdream.com/podcastmaker/
Garageband: http://www.apple.com/ilife/garageband/
And another good tool for pulling media from DVDs is Handbrake:
Though handbrake gets derided as a way of just ripping DVDs for playback on an ipod, but its actually a great way to pull audio and video from dvd if its your only source to pull from for integrating into both film projects and web sites.
