Incoming: The BAVC Producers Institute

The Bay Area Video CoalitionSo I just got back from a whirlwind trip to San Francisco to check out the Bay Area Video Coalition's Producers Institute. Honestly, one of my favorite parts of this job is the chance to discover little gems like this one. It is a 10-day program which pairs traditional media and new media professionals together in a residency program of thought-leadership roundtables, one-on-one project development with technical mentors, new media storytelling workshops, and hands-on prototyping of their ideas. The goal of the program is to give traditional storytellers an intense primer on new media tools and techniques. I was blown away by the caliber of accepted producer's this year - Peabodys, Emmys and Oscars galore. All of the projects in the institute focus on a significant documentary work of cultural relevance. It was inspiring to be around these passionate, visionary talents. In the coming days stay tuned for blog posts from some of the producer's in the institute detailing their experience and some of the things they've learned. In the coming weeks we'll be offering highlights of some of the panel discussions and workshops in our new Power Panels series.
