This week Anthony Gonzalez shares some unexpected answers, exhibiting his range of tastes and his sense of humor. Gonzalez is the force behind M83. His idealistic view of his teenage years became the source of inspiration for his latest album, Saturdays=Youth. The album recreates feelings of discovery, experimentation, and youthful exuberance, but without the awkwardness and social inadequecies that are often attributed to this time.
Gonzalez hails from Antibes, France, where he was exposed to a mixture of French and Amercian influences. Borrowing many of the key elements of 80s music, his manages takes you back in time and to a place you've never seen at the same time.
1. What music was played in your home while you were growing up?
Pavarotti and Jean Michel Jarre because it was the 90s! And all the kids from the 90s in France grew up with the same music playing in their ears. We were raised to think that Pavarotti was a genius & Jean Michel Jarre a keyboard master. But of course our parents had it all wrong.
2. Who is the best artist we have probably never heard of?
My grandmother! She rocks the house from morning to night. She is just super califragilistic expiraligoric. But since computers have appeared in her life I have to save her from technology disasters way too often.
3. What record did you used to love, but now can't stand?
"The Wall" by Pink Floyd. Because it has became so cliché with the years to like that record. I just spent too much time in my life talking about it during my teenage years.
4. What song do you want played at your funeral?
"You're Beautiful" of James Blunt. Most of all because it will make all the girls cry and make my fellow friends laugh to tears.
5. What is your favorite b-side?
Mika's b-sides are the best!
6. Which medium do you prefer: vinyl, cd, or download?
Laser discs only! The more I have the more my room looks cozy. They are the best collectable items from my generation.
7. Which artist would your fans be surprised to find out you like?
"Worlds Apart" because everything about them is so intense: the songs, their choreographies & their choices of clothes. The boy bands are the best invention from the 20th century. It was a revelation to me. They are way too entertaining.

8. What musician would you choose to cover one of your songs?
"Duffy" because Britney Spears has kids & a divorce that stained her popularity way too much. Christina Aguilera got married & everybody forgot about her. Duffy has something from the girl next door that can make me believe I could just pick up my phone & call her to sing along.
9. Who is the most overrated artist?
"M83". I still sing with a French accent!
10. What musician or band do you wish you’d seen play live in their prime?
Neil Young.
11. What non-musical influences do you have?
Porn. It’s just eye candy & music to my ears.
