This week Dia, lead singer of Meg & Dia, shares her musical influences. The band was started by sisters Meg and Dia Frampton who quickly became renowned for their sweet sound and such honest, playful lyrics as, "He didn't unbutton your blouse to see a better view of your heart."

Last month Meg & Dia released their new album here, here and here. Their sound has evolved over the years, incorporating synths, strings, and guest vocals. Having first played the Warped Tour in 2006 as its official MySpace band, Meg & Dia will be taking part in the famous touring festival again this summer.

1.  What music was played in your home while you were growing up?

A whole lot of Queen, and a whole lot of the beach boys, mostly because of my dad and what he liked to listen to.

2.  Who is the best artist we have probably never heard?

Cursive, they have great lyrics.

3.  What record did you used to love, but now can't stand?

“And before then we had made a wish, that we would be missed, if one or the other just did not exist. Cause that’s what we’re waiting for.” – Modest Mouse

4.  What song do you want played at your funeral?

”Wouldn’t it be Nice”- Beach Boys

5.  What is your favorite b-side?

The Format

6.  Which medium do you prefer: vinyl, cd, or download?

CD and Vinyl because I like to actually be able to hold it in my hand while I listen, look at the artwork, or follow along with the lyric book.

7.  Which artist would your fans be surprised to find out you like?

Uhm….. Rage against the Machine or Shania Twain maybe.

8.  What musician would you choose to cover one of your songs?

Modest Mouse or Tom Petty because I look up to them so much.

9.  Who is the most overrated artist?

I don’t think I have room to judge that…

10. What musician or band do you wish you’d seen play live in their prime?

Tom Petty although he is still in his prime to me! Michael Jackson would have been amazing.

11. What non-musical influences do you have?

Victor Hugo because he wrote so many of my favorite books, including Les Miserables and The Toilers of the Sea.
