Logical Links: Aug. 25th, 2008 - Noisy Audio, Bias Bundles, and Waves

A weekly roundup of hot topics and buzz-worthy conversation from the Logic Studio community:

First off…

I’m not sure how many of you that read these posts are new to the game or seasoned vets, and this weekend I came across this blog post that tackles a beginner’s approach to a problem that all engineers face, recording in a not so quite environment. This simple set of suggestions for recording in GarageBand touches on the common applications for a noise gate and band-pass filtering to eliminate extra noise in your recording. I think it serves as a great starting point for newer engineers as well as a bit of a refresher for the rest of us.

And for those of you that gating just isn’t enough to clean up your audio, Bias is offering a special bundle promotion on its audio cleaning software, SoundSoap Pro and Master Perfection Suite. The promotion will run thru the end of next month and offers a buy one get one free setup on the two programs. In addition to that, you can also go right now to the Bias website and download the GateEx plug-in from the Master Perfection Suite for free. I would keep an eye on this link as I think they may be making different plug-ins available as this promotion goes on.

To take the Internet resource digging even further, let me suggest that all of you take a look thru some, if not all, of the links mentioned by Brent Latta last week over on Create Digital Music. This veritable Top 15 list ranges from audio basics to specific elements of scoring for film and video games. I simply copied the entire page to keep on file for regular refrence.

And finally,

With the upcoming launch of the Waves Logic Studio Tour, we are going to launch our own little tour of sorts, featuring the Waves plug-ins that come contained in the Mercury Bundle. These blog-formatted posts will feature general overview and application information as well as A/B audio samples of manufacturer presets and settings. Keep coming back here to the Logic Studio Blog for the entire month of September for these upcoming features.

Enjoy this week’s Logical Links and as always if you have a tip on a hot story, drop me an email at logicallinks@magnetmediafilms.com
