Howard Zinn's A People's History of the United States is the inspiration for a star-studded, cameo-filled documentary called The People Speak.
Since its publication nearly 30 years ago, Zinn's History has been published in multiple languages, sold well over a million copies and somehow managed to achieve its author's stated goal of a "quiet revolution;" wildly disparate collections of people view the book, and its focus on the disadvantaged and the disenfranchised, as a revelation.
This December, some of its most famous fans, including Lupe Fiasco, Eddie Vedder, Bruce Springsteen, John Legend and Pink will appear in The People Speak, and they will be doing everything from reciting the Bill of Rights to singing songs. It's a bit unclear what larger message The People Speak will have (you can check out the rather odd preview here), and with are so many cameos lined up, it definitely looks like it has the potential to come off like this:
rather than as the stirring populist special people might expect it to be: We love Lupe to pieces. Benjamin Bratt and Viggo Mortensen using a stupid accent, not so much.
