Laura Miner, editor at JPG Magazine, announced today that because of public outcry, after the announcement of the magazine's imminent shutdown, several potential buyers have stepped forward. This could be good news for JPG fans, though at this time, who the actual buyer might end up being, has yet to be revealed.
One must assume that they are looking for someone who will carry on the magazine/community in much the same fashion, though it seems obvious that any new owners will want to both put their own mark on it, as well as take steps to ensure that JPG won't shut down six months down the line.
One of the rumors flying around, has been that Flickr could be a potential buyer. This could be an interesting match, especially considering the gigantic community already established there, which could be the injection JPG needs. It would also be a kind of home coming for JPG, which for a long time was little more than a Flickr group.
Whatever happens, I am glad to see that the people are actually being heard in this case, and that there is hope for JPG Magazine. Because to this day, it is still one of the best, most inspiring photography magazines, I have ever come across.
