Project: Seattleites

SeattleitesI've talked about giving myself little challenges and pushing myself, and now the time has come to stop talking and start doing. It's about time, I take on something bigger than your average photostroll. Therefore, I have decided to start planning a photobook.

The theme I have chosen is one that is both doable (I can find all my subjects in the city where I live) and something that fascinates me: People. Not just models on a set, but real live people living actual lives. The photobook project has the working title "Seattleites". In it, I will feature 12 very different people who all share the same city. Each profile will be made up of both posed and candid photos, as well as a few paragraphs and basic information about each subject. In the end, I should have an intimate snapshot of Seattle.

This is an idea I've been toying with for quite a while, but it was that realization, that I didn't challenge my photography enough, that pushed me over the line from idea to project. Stage one is finding the right 12 people. Some, I will invite to participate, others I hope will volunteer or come through recommendation. For starters, I have set up a page about the project on my (shamefully primitive) freelancer site and promoted it on Facebook, Flickr and now, here.

I'll no doubt be following up on this project, as I get deeper into it.
