Introducing: The Shutter Sisters

This blog post was contributed by Julie Chung, ZIO editorial assistant. Julie is a 'newbie' to the world of photography, but an avid appreciator of beautiful things.

If you want to experience a beautiful, awe-inspiring example of the sometimes overlooked works of women, Shutter Sisters will open your eyes to a whole new world of photography. It consists of what women, particularly these "sisters" who join in the commonality of appreciating simple art forms, find beautiful in everyday life. Whether it's family, friendship, love, or mouth-watering baked goods such as cookies and cakes, each image is depicted in a vivid, simple, and delicate light. The blog is driven solely by women, as one can tell by the aesthetically pleasing brown-and-pink theme, which introduces the site as comfortable, dainty, and female oriented with a homey feel to it. As well as each photo telling a story, each contributing female photographer shares a little background about herself, including her quirky likes and dislikes, as well as her own photography blog if she maintains one (which, in turn, furthers the site's credit and potential). There's a omnipresent theme of storytelling and each photo takes time to decipher. One can imagine a story to accompany each photo, whether it's a boyfriend and girlfriend holding hands, or a quaint birds' nest.

However, the beauty of the blog format is that the photographer is able to explain and go further into each of her own photos, describing her understanding, intention, or how she just simply came across the image in her everyday life. Not only does the website inspire others to discover beautiful images in the world and capture them on film to have and to cherish forever, but it also gives an inside look to each photographer's personality, interests, and lifestyle. Beauty is present everywhere in life, and these "sisters" are on a mission to share this notion with the rest of the world through the "sweet shots" that they naturally encounter.
