On July 29th, I posted that I was going to take part in a photo contest. To sum up: I am doing it, because I feel the need to try something new and different. To challenge myself, hoping to walk away from it with renewed motivation and inspiration. At least a little bit.
Ever since announcing my intention, I've been struggling to find just the right image. And I went with the one showed here. There are three reasons for this. First up, it's a Holga shot (a requirement for this particular contest), secondly, I like the photo enough that I wouldn't mind hanging it on my own walls (the most important reason), and finally I got good feedback on it, when I uploaded it to Flickr.
I wanted the photo to be a somewhat recent one, thinking that I'd definitely be going with a shot from my recent road trip across the US. This one was shot in Santa Rosa, New Mexico, at a fantastic diner along historic Route 66.
Though other people's opinion matters, I did not pick this photo thinking it is going to win. Part of my reason to take part in this contest, is so that I will remember to go check out the winners, when they are announced. That's part of the whole hunt-for-inspirartion bit. I am not actually counting on winning anything myself, though that doesn't mean, I don't want to show off a photo that others seem to like.
