Editor’s Note: Designing Minds is on a short break in preparation for the launch season two featuring all new episodes showcasing design in everyday life. This episode of Designing Minds is a special syndication from the Zoom in Online Design Channel video archive.
Zoom-In Online presents "Design Matters Live," the live version of Debbie Millman’s highly acclaimed internet radio show, Design Matters. In this video, Debbie Millman inteviews celebrated graphic designer and brand enhancer, Alan Dye, whose experience includes working for prominent brand agencies, such as Landor Associates and Ogilvy & Mather. As the final event for 2007, the two sit down to discuss how Alan's process as a designer was initiated by an adage in carpentry: "Measure Twice. Cut Once." With this in mind, Alan, whose most recent accolade is becoming the Creative Director at Apple, explains the significance of treating his work as an exercise in design and the necessity to surround yourself with individuals who will compel you to develop the best work that you possibly can.
