Technology Today: Tim Grey of Microsoft on JPEG XR

Zoom In Online’s Megan Cunningham visited Photoshop World for a conversation with Tim Grey, Director of the Pro Photo Community team at Microsoft. As Tim sees it, Microsoft’s role in the photo community is to be a problem solver. Under his direction, his engineering team has engaged in a great deal of research to uncover the difficulties facing professional photographers, advanced amateurs and the general consumer. Their solution? JPEG XR, an exciting new photo format that offers efficient, lossless, compression. What this means for photographers is that they will be able to capture the highest quality digital photographs at much smaller file sizes , as well as tap into new creative features like High Dynamic Range (HDR). Tim goes on to discuss what he sees on the horizon for the photo community.
