On the Circuit: Alan Ball, Summer Bishil and Peter MacDissi (Towelhead)

Editor's note: This podcast originally ran after the film's premiere at the 2008 Sundance Film Festival. It has been re-posted in honor of the film's limited release scheduled for September 12th. In this episode of On The Circuit, Todd Howard sits down with revered writer/director Alan Ball (American Beauty, Six Feet Under), first time big-screen actress Summer Bishil, and up-and-coming actor Peter MacDissi (Six Feet Under) of the controversial film Towelhead. Having recently premiered at the 2008 Sundance Film Festival, the film explores themes presented in Alicia Erian's bildungsroman about the sexual awakening and manipulation of a young Lebanese girl sent to live with her overbearing father in Texas. Ball, Bishil, and MacDissi each discuss their relationship to the film's material, as well as the manner in which they addressed their roles in the film--be it through directing, adapting the text or portraying a character resoundingly dissimilar to their actual personalities.
