On the Circuit: David Kaplan (Year of the Fish)

David Kaplan has always been attracted to the world fairy tales. When his script, Year of the Fish was accepted into the 2007 Sundance Labs, his fairy tale came true. In those labs David laid the groundwork for his feature film debut in which he updates an ancient Chinese variation of the Cinderella story to New York City’s modern-day Chinatown. To enhance the dream-like quality of the story, the entire low-budget digital film was rotoscoped, enveloping the entire film in a surreal fog. Zoom In Online’s Jim Rohner spoke to David about his attraction to the rags to riches story, the benefits of the Sundance Labs, and much more. For more episodes of On the Circuit, click here.
