On the Circuit: Jezza Neumann (China's Stolen Children)

China has a big problem but you wouldn’t know it from anything you’d see or read there. Despite the fact that thousands of children per year are abducted, bought, and sold through a human trafficking black market, the Chinese government denies that such a problem exists. As a result of the country’s One Child Policy, a rift has appeared in the country that divides many families into two categories: those looking to buy a specific kind of child and those fearful of persecution for violating the policy. Some do not have the luxury of a choice – some children are simply abducted with little hope of rescue. Filmmaker Jezza Nuemann shot China’s Stolen Children covertly, constantly at risk of exposure, deportation, and being banned from the country. In this episode of On the Circuit, he talks to Zoom In’s Jim Rohner about how deep the problem of human trafficking reaches and shares the intricate details about how to shoot undercover.
