In honor of Dying Breed's Australian release on August 14th, we're re-running the podcast with director Jody Dwyer, originally recorded during this year's Tribeca Film Festival. Alexander Pearce is a historical figure in Tasmania. Equal parts legend and equal parts monstrosity, Pearce escaped the most brutal prison in Australia, Macquarie Harbour Penal Station, in 1822 and cannibalized his fellow escapees before being executed. Jody Dwyer’s Dying Breed dares to imagine what it would be like if Pearce’s line had continued as cannibals just like him. During Dying Breed's run at Tribeca 2008, Zoom In Online’s Jim Rohner sat down with Jody Dwyer to discuss transitioning to feature filmmaking from commercial directing, his creative influences, and even the state of Australian cinema.
