Technology Today: The RED Camera

Zoom In Online's Megan Cunningham dialed up Ted Schilowitz from the floor of IBC for a conversation about the launch of the what some consider the biggest shakeup in professional film and video making since the advent of digital editing, the RED camera. Ted, who proudly wears the title “Leader of the Rebellion” at RED, has quieted naysayers and disbelievers when the first RED camera’s hit the public market at the end of last month. Ted calls in from IBC to speak about RED’s philosophy of basing development on engineering and not marketing, which lead to a extremely flexible and upgradable camcorder, or as he puts it a “cam-puter”. Ted offers workflow specifics for the camera’s amazing digital imagery (six times the resolution of 1080p!) which, interestingly, is more akin to film than DV and goes on to suggest a typical configuration from the impressive laundry list of available options.
