Eastman Kodak Posts 2Q Profit

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (Forbes) -Eastman Kodak Co. swung to a second-quarter profit Thursday despite lower sales and hefty restructuring charges as the photography icon enters the final stretch in a drastic, four-year digital makeover.

The results beat Wall Street expectations and its stock rose more than 5 percent.

Kodak earned $592 million, or $2.06 a share, in the April-June quarter, versus a loss of $282 million, or 98 cents a share, a year earlier when it also took charges tied to its massive overhaul.

Its shares jumped $1.38, or 5.4 percent, to $26.93 Thursday.

NYC may require permits for many types of filming, photography

NEW YORK -- Filmmakers and photographers who have made New York City one of the world's most beloved backdrops are upset over proposed rules that would force them to get a permit and a $1 million insurance policy to use cameras in public places.

New regulations drafted by the Mayor's Office of Film, Theatre and Broadcasting would require a permit for any type of filming or photography that involved "an interaction among two or more people at a single site for 30 or more minutes."

The New York Press Photographers Association is asking members of the media to come forward if they are suffering from long-term health effects of covering the World Trade Center attacks on Sept. 11, 2001.

David Handschuh, the NYPPA intergovernmental affairs chair and a photographer for the New York Daily News, says he has heard from about a dozen 9/11 media workers who are experiencing health problems. Handschuh, who was hit by debris and suffered a broken leg while covering the attack, said he is among those now experiencing breathing problems.
