Description
Zoom In Online's Todd Howard caught up with Aral Balkan at Flashforward 2007. Aral is the founder of Open Source Flash, the creator of SWX (a new native data exchange format for the Flash platform) and the author of the widely-used RIA framework, Arp. In his session entitled "Let's Talk About SWX, Baby!", he discussed how SWX allows developers to pull data into Flash by packaging blocks of data into SWF bytecode, allowing that data to be accessed by Flash. Aral's goal is to bring these various technologies together, making the developer's life easier. Aral is a published author and has contributed to several books and magazine articles. He is the author of the Adobe Flex 2 QuickStart Guides and has written six courses that cover topics ranging from introductory Flash and ActionScript 2 to Flex 2, ActionScript 3, best practices, and open source development.
Todd and Aral discuss the ins and outs of SWX, the current state of Flash development, and working with existing API's. The conversation provides a great overview of how developers can use these new tools to re-purpose open source information in the way that they themselves imagine - not just in the way that the websites and organizations in question define it.
