Description
“The Dictator Hunter” is not a nickname for the latest superhero film – it’s the nickname of Reed Brody, Counsel for Human Rights Watch, earned for his work on bringing Chile’s former tyrant Augusto Pinochet to justice. Though he could be making hundreds of thousands working for the UN, Reed has chosen the less glamorous road for the last three years as he applies his never-say-die work ethic to the task of removing ex-Chadian dictator Hissene Habre from his comfortable exile in Senegal. Despite his genocidal atrocities of the 80’s, Habre lives without fear of trial since no country in Africa wants to try him, citing “it’s not our problem.” Klaartje Quirins’ The Dictator Hunter attempts to prove otherwise, and she expressed just how important this task is to Reed and to the world when she talked to Jim Rohner at this year’s Human Rights Watch International Film Festival.
