Sony Pictures Classics Premieres 'Baghead' in Austin, TX

NEW YORK, May 28 -- Sony Pictures Classics has announced that they will implement a new, non-traditional release strategy for the Duplass Brothers' latest film "Baghead." Rather than the standard New York / Los Angeles launch, the film will first open in Austin, Texas on Friday June 13, 2008, a strategy that will seek to utilize Austin's emerging status in the independent film community. Austin Film Society will kick it off with an outdoor premiere screening the night before release. Austin will be followed by a national roll out throughout the summer, emphasizing key regional markets. This unique release plan is in keeping with a pattern set up by the Duplass Brothers on their previous film, "The Puffy Chair."

Tom Bernard, Co-President of Sony Pictures Classics commented, "This release campaign fits the unique style of the films of the Duplass Brothers and is an exciting new strategy we are eager to implement."

"Baghead" follows a group of four actors hoping to write a script that will propel them to stardom. They drive to a cabin in the woods where their boozy brainstorming is interrupted by a scary apparition with a bag over his head. This inspires their creative juices while at the same time scaring them witless. The film first made headlines when it was one of only a handful of films picked up for distribution at this year's Sundance Film Festival.
